This year's final project
To end the year in Digital Photography, we are studying the principles of design. We are to take different pictures of objects and describe how this shows that principle of design.
Principles of Design:
Unity: This refers to the sense of wholeness, harmony and order in a work of art.
Variety: The differences among and between the elements in a composition.
Balance: The weighted relationship between elements in a composition.
Emphasis: Emphasis can be applied to one or more of the elements to create dominance.
Rhythm: The repeated use of an element to achieve visual movement in a composition.
Repetition: The use of an element or elements more than once in a composition.
Proportion: The size relationship of all parts, to each other and to the whole, in a composition.

Unity
The scene shown here shows a good example of unity because the image makes one feel like they are standing in picture, on the river. The picture shows an entire commumity, home to thousands of animals and insects. It can make someone feel tranquil.
Variety
These planks of the bridge show variety becuase no two of the planks are the same. Each one has a crack or rip in it that the others don't. Even if all the planks were new, the lines in the wood would be different from each other, still keeping variety in the planks.
Balance
The image, although a little blurry, shows the balance in nature between plants and animals. The forest couldn't survive without a good, healthy balance between these two types of live creatures. It shows how one group helps the other.
Emphasis
This image shows emphasis because the center flower has the most dominance in the entire picture. It has the most color, takes up the most room in the picture, and has the most detail and design. It draws all attention to itself, not anything else in the image.
Rhythm
The bridge shows rhythm because the continuous planks and rails of the bridge make you move your eyes though the image to the trees and shrubs in the background of the image.
Repetition
This is an example of repetition because the elements fit together and repeat over and over. The eye flows though the image from one corner to another.
Proportion
The trees show good proprotion becuse the three main trees are the same type of tree, but the largest one on the right is most likely the original tree that was in the ground long before the other two. The other two are old seeds that were taken off from the original and grew in the following decades. They look almost the same, except for size.
